Nokia to run managed services business from India
Responding to increased demand in the country, Nokia Corp. has decided to run its worldwide managed services business from India, it announced on Monday.
Nokia also said that its current vice president for managed services, Henrik Sund, is quitting the company. Ashish Chowdhary, currently the country head for Nokia's Networks group in India, will become global head of managed services by the end of the year, Nokia said.
India's mobile subscriber base has crossed 100 million, and as service providers expand their networks, they have turned to service providers like Nokia to manage their networks.
Nokia's new Global Networks Solutions Center, in Chennai, south India, has already started operations and will eventually serve as the hub for other Nokia operations centers around the world. The center offers a variety of services including remote care, remote integration, consulting, planning, and optimization.
Nokia, of Espoo, Finland also announced that the scope of an ongoing five-year contract in the country with Hutchison Essar Ltd., a telecom services provider based in Mumbai, has been expanded to include more of its networks.
Nokia also has a handset manufacturing facility in Chennai.
