Software appliances promise to reduce the complexity of deploying and managing enterprise apps -- much like the ASPs of yesterday but without the privacy and compliance concerns. The real win is when software appliances are used with blade servers. "With a software appliance, you can image a blade rapidly. So not only do you have this self-managing piece of software, but you also have it running on a self-managing piece of hardware.
