Time working against AMD's asset-light plans

As part of AMD's efforts to recover from the damaging delay of its Barcelona quad-core processor in 2007, the chip maker wants to spin off its two manufacturing plants, called fabs, as part of a strategy called asset light.

PC industry scared netbooks may hurt laptop sales

Advanced Micro Devices has no immediate plans to release a processor designed for low-cost laptops, sometimes called netbooks, saying its not yet clear whether or not growing shipments of these devices will cannibalize sales of mainstream laptops.
